After many years of printmaking and the transforming of natural and manmade forms into abstract shapes, in the last decade I have changed my medium, working either in mixed media or oil stick alone and have been incorporating recognizable items into my work. The oil sticks (also known as pigment sticks), made of wax, linseed oil, and pigment, combine the richness of oil color with a distinctive luminosity; the directness of their application provides a unique intimacy and immediacy.

In spite of this change of process and the evolution of images, my commitment remains the same: to communicate my personal vision of the world in a manner that will impact on the viewer. However, shock and sensationalism are not in my bag of tricks. Rather, I aim to rivet the eye by manipulating available elements such as color, shape, and line in a manner that zeroes in on the subject matter, illuminating the essence of my concern. I am in the business of seducing viewers with the curves of form, the juxtapositions of color, the dazzle of movement that have grabbed me. Most recently my focus has been on vegetables and produce markets, but whether the depiction is an eggplant or a door jamb or a splash of light, translating the lushness of the vision and the inner life of the inanimate continues to intrigue and challenge.
