Biography

Born in Chicago, in 1960, Rafael Matias currently resides in Los Angeles.
Matias' ethnic roots, Native American, Mexican, Spanish, and French,
are reflected in his vibrant art.

Rafael is best known for his Venetian glass and bead mosaics,
which reflect his favorite themes of
HEART, SOUL AND SPIRIT.

The bead mosaics, several measuring 3"x 4", are constructed
by applying each small bead one at a time to wood.
Rafael's attention to detail borders on the miraculous.

Matias also works with a wide variety
of mixed media in his other pieces:
mosaic, sculpture and bead paintings,
photography and installations.
