My work is gives segments of our society a voice that we normally don't have the inclination to talk to or have the desire listen to. These are people that we avoid or are even afraid to approach. Each piece has this voice. The voice comes from the tapes I record when I photograph and interview them. Each piece then contains a tape player that plays back their stories. The boxes are also symbolic. The homeless pieces are made from corrugated cardboard, a material that is often used by them to sleep on. The gang boxes are covered with stucco and the graffiti is sprayed on with an airbrush by each homie.
I earn my living as an advertising photographer photographing products and people. I wanted to create a body of work that was not just photographs and this work was the result. The pieces have been shown in college galleries as well as non-profit galleries in group shows and in one person exhibits. Hopefblly soon you will be able to hear the interviews here at W3Art.
